On the Sleeper Train to Minsk

We are on the train! a sleeper train! The cabin in the train is very small, and there are only 3 beds. We are under the protection of Doner Man 1 (mr.lowery),
Doner Man 2 (Mr.Parker), Doner Woman 1(Leah), Mrs. Parker (Leah said we are not allowed to call Mrs. Parker Doner Woman- perhaps Doner Lady?), and Professor Dumbledore (Mr.Bakke).
We (Sophia, Zoe, Leah ) share a cabin with 3 beds. Occasionally we have to open the window to let out the heat and just now we did and the air smelled like cow dung, and now our room smells like it.
Paula, Carla hve already knocked on our door FOUR TIMES! It was very entertaining as they alway said upps.
On the side we have a picture of both sophia and zoe in our cabin (in the sleeper train).
Greetings to our families, our classes(5a and 5b) and our school(jfk)
Zoe, Sophia

Vitajcie (pryvitanni) all you JFK travellers! It sounds like you're having a great time so far! Zoe's brother Finni sends a special hello. He can't wait to get some Belarussian sweets. Say hi to all the Doners and Dumbledore for us, including Doner Lady. Zoe -- your mama says buy yourself a hat if you're cold (and sends many kisses -- yuck!)

Hi all,

I wanted to write earlier today, but we had quite a program going. The kids had their spontaneous and long term problems today and had a lot of fun. In the afternoon they went swimming (indoors, obviously- it was snowing this morning!) They also found time to make friends with children from Belarus and Russia. The kids who were at last year's festival (Jess, Lydia, etc.) found their old friends from Moldovia, who were thrilled to see them.

Now we're at International Night, where the kids put on shows for the adults. Some are quite impressive. Last night we visited the Opening Ceremony, which was pretty elaborate and featured a number of local singers and dancers and later a laser show and fireworks display. The Belarusians are going all out for the teams. By the way, there about eight hundred people visiting here from all over the world!

The kids are absorbing it all and look really, really happy.

The food is not bad, but it's typically Belarusian/Russian. Tonight we had goulash with rice, beets salad with egg, dark bread, butter, cheese, salami. At lunch we had fish with mayonnaise, mashed potatoes and a carrot and cabbage salad. Breakfast today was pancakes with vanilla sauce and "kindersalat". Usually we get pears or clementines as well and a yogurt before bed. Believe it or not, the plates usually get emptied at mealtimes.

The lake here is formed by springs, which admittedly makes the air very cool, but fresh.

Sorry, I have to cut this short. I want to watch the kids from St. Petersburg breakdance. ;)

Hi Leah,

Thanks for the updates:) We're so happy that the girls are having such a good time. Please tell Jessica that we've tried to call her, but her phone must not be on. We miss her, but are happy she is having such a unique and life enriching experience!
